Alongside fluctuating milk prices that failed to cover production costs, the farm faced insurmountable financial strain. Co-owner Fiona Wilson emphasized the necessity for farmers to adapt and diversify their income streams due to the diminishing profitability of traditional agriculture.

The transformation at Dumble Farm began in 2022 with the launch of "cow cuddling" sessions aimed at supporting wildlife conservation efforts. For a fee, visitors are invited to engage in tactile interactions with these gentle creatures, including brushing and stroking them. This unique experience also includes safaris to view Highland cattle. Participants, such as Emma Hutton, have traveled long distances to enjoy this intimate encounter with nature. Farmer James McCune explained that training the cows to embrace human interaction required over a year of patience and care. Now accustomed to the attention, the cows revel in being pampered, much like oversized domestic pets.
